Learn how to use Payoneer for Gelato payments

Updated over 3 months ago

This article explains how to use Payoneer as a payment method for your Gelato orders. It outlines the process of activating Payoneer, provides details on how payments are processed, and addresses potential currency conversions.

Activating Payoneer

To activate Payoneer as your chosen payment method, follow these simple steps:

  1. Navigate to your Gelato Dashboard.

  2. Go to Billing > Payment > Methods > Add new payment method.

  3. Click on the Payoneer option.

  4. Enter your Payoneer login details or create a new account if needed.

  5. Click 'Save' to confirm.

Payment Processing with Payoneer

When you place an order, Gelato will attempt to charge your Payoneer account in the order's currency. If your Payoneer account has insufficient funds in that currency, Gelato will automatically attempt to charge another available currency balance in your Payoneer account.

To avoid potential exchange rate fees, ensure your Payoneer account holds sufficient funds in the currency you use most frequently for orders. You can monitor your balance and transaction history directly within your Payoneer account. Each time you top up your Gelato wallet (if applicable), a "Payment to Gelato" charge will appear in your transaction history.

To add credit to your Gelato wallet:

  1. Select the desired currency wallet.

  2. Enter the amount you wish to add.

  3. Choose Payoneer as the payment method.

Example Payment Process

Let's say you place an order in EUR:

  1. Gelato sends a payment request to your Payoneer account.

  2. Two scenarios are possible:

    • Your EUR Payoneer balance has enough funds: the order is processed, and payment is complete.

    • Your EUR Payoneer balance has insufficient funds: Gelato automatically sends the payment request to another available currency balance in your Payoneer account (e.g., USD, GBP) and charges the first one with sufficient funds. In this case, Payoneer's exchange rate fees will apply.
