This article explains Brazilian tax requirements for shipping goods to customers in Brazil, which are mandatory to include for all orders.
Understanding Brazilian Tax Requirements
When shipping to Brazil, it's essential to include both federal and state tax details for every order. These details help ensure smooth customs clearance and delivery.
Required Tax Information
To comply with Brazilian tax regulations, you'll need to provide the following information for each shipment:
Business Address
Specify whether the recipient is a private individual or a business entity. This distinction is crucial as it determines the type of tax ID required.
CPF or CNPJ
Provide the recipient's tax ID based on whether they are an individual or a business:
Shipping to an Individual: Provide the recipient's CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas), an 11-digit number (XXX.XXX.XXX-XX) that serves as an individual's tax identification number in Brazil.
Shipping to a Company: Provide the recipient's CNPJ (Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica), a 14-digit number (XX.XXX.XXX/XXXX-XX) used to identify businesses for tax purposes in Brazil.
State Tax ID
If shipping to a company, you must provide their state tax ID. In Brazil, companies have two tax IDs: a federal CNPJ and a state tax ID specific to the state where they are registered.
Registration State Code
For companies, include the two-letter state code where the company is registered. This code helps determine the applicable state tax regulations.
