Learn how to resolve spot color issues by converting them to CMYK to ensure accurate printing and avoid color discrepancies

Updated over 3 months ago

This article explains that spot colors cannot be used when designing for print, and why. It also details a workaround if you cannot change the spot color to CMYK.

Why You Can't Use Spot Colors

Spot colors are special, pre-mixed inks that are used in printing to achieve a specific color. They are different from CMYK colors, which are created by mixing cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks. While spot colors can create vibrant and unique hues, they are not supported by our online printing services. If you use a spot color in your design, it will likely result in a color error.

To avoid color discrepancies and ensure accurate printing, it's essential to convert any spot colors in your design to CMYK color mode. Most design software offers this conversion feature.

If you're unable to change the spot color, it's important to note that the final printed output may exhibit slight color variations compared to what you see on your screen. The extent of the shade difference depends on the specific spot color used.
