This article explains how to sell personalized products, which are modified during or after purchase, through your Shopify store using Gelato.
Two Integration Options for Customized Designs
Gelato offers two ways to support selling customized products in your Shopify store:
Manual Order Approval Workflow
This method is ideal if your products require a designer's touch based on customer input. Here's how it works:
Customers place orders with their customization requests.
Gelato automatically sets these orders to "Pending Approval."
You receive a notification to review and approve the order.
You upload the customized design file to the order.
Once approved, the order goes into production and is shipped to the customer.

Editor in Your Store
If your products allow for simple customizations that customers can manage themselves, like changing text or swapping images, integrating Gelato's editor is the way to go. This empowers customers to personalize products directly within your Shopify store before checkout.
Controlling Customer Actions in the Editor
You can fine-tune how customers interact with different design elements using the layer lock feature:
Personalization Disabled: The customer cannot edit the layer at all.
Personalization Enabled (Unlocked): The customer has full editing freedom, including changing text, images, moving, resizing, deleting, and copying the layer.
Personalization Enabled (Locked): The customer can edit the text and image content but cannot move, resize, delete, or copy the layer.
Expanding Personalization with Product Personalization Tool
For enhanced customization, leverage Gelato's Product Personalization Tool. This tool enables in-store personalization directly within the editor during the purchase process. Discover how to set up personalized products.
