Learn to automate order fulfillment with Gelato by connecting remote file storage like Amazon S3

Updated over a month ago

This article provides a comprehensive guide on how to automate your order fulfillment process using remote file storage. By connecting your storage solution to your Gelato account, you can streamline your workflow and save valuable time.

Getting Started With Automated Fulfillment

To utilize this powerful feature, you'll need an active Gelato+ Gold subscription. This premium subscription unlocks a range of benefits, including the ability to automate order fulfillment from your preferred remote file storage.

Setting up Your Amazon S3 Bucket

Amazon S3 is a widely used storage solution that integrates seamlessly with Gelato. Follow these steps to set up your Amazon S3 bucket:

  1. Log in to your Amazon AWS console and navigate to the S3 service.

  2. Click on "Create bucket" and provide a unique name for your bucket. Choose the AWS region that best suits your needs.

  3. During bucket configuration, ensure that you set the permissions to "public" to grant Gelato access to your files.

File Preparation and Naming Conventions

To ensure accurate and efficient order fulfillment, adhere to our recommended file naming structure. The optimal format is: {order_number}_{order_item_number}.<file-extension>

For instance, if the order number is 12345 and the order item number is 67890, the file name should be 12345_67890.pdf. We accept files in JPEG, PNG, and PDF formats.

Note: You can easily receive the Item Reference ID outside Gelato dashboard by configuring Webhooks and using Get order API request.

Connecting Your Storage to Gelato

Once your S3 bucket is set up and your files are named correctly, you can connect your storage to your Gelato account. In your Gelato dashboard, go to "Store Settings" and provide the full file path to your S3 bucket, including the domain and any relevant folders.

Exploring Alternative Storage Solutions

While we highly recommend Amazon S3, Gelato can integrate with other cloud storage providers. Below is a list of alternative options you might consider:

  • Google Cloud Storage

  • Azure Blob Storage

  • DigitalOcean Spaces

  • Zadara

  • IBM Cloud Object Storage

  • MinIO

  • IDrive Online Backup

  • Wasabi Object Storage

Please note that while we strive for broad compatibility, we cannot guarantee full functionality with all storage providers. We recommend conducting thorough testing before fully committing to an alternative solution.
