German Packaging Act and LUCID ID

Learn about the German Packaging Act (VerpackG) and how Gelato ensures compliance for orders in Germany

Updated over 3 months ago

This article explains the German Packaging Act (VerpackG) and its impact on Gelato customers selling in Germany. It outlines Gelato's compliance and provides information on how to fulfill the requirements of the act.

German Packaging Act and Gelato

The German Packaging Act aims to minimize the ecological impact of packaging waste. Gelato ensures its operations align with these regulations by submitting annual reports to the Verpackungsregister LUCID and paying applicable fees to a dual scheme provider based on the yearly packaging volume placed on the German market. Gelato's current dual scheme provider is Landbell. This covers all orders placed through our platform.

LUCID ID for Online Marketplaces

From July 1, 2022, online marketplaces like Etsy and Amazon must verify the compliance of their retailers with the German Packaging Act. This means sellers need to provide proof of compliance, often through a LUCID ID.

Using Gelato's LUCID ID

  • If your products are produced, packaged, and shipped by Gelato, you can use our LUCID ID: DE2478308883224. The company details are Gelato ASA, Dronning Eufemias gate 8, 0191 Oslo, 991753591MVA.

  • However, if you use other dropshipping, print-on-demand, or fulfillment partners, or handle packaging and shipping yourself, you must ensure your compliance separately. This might involve registering with the German Central Packaging Registry and paying relevant fees. Gelato's LUCID ID cannot be used in such cases.
