Learn why your cart thumbnail might show the default design instead of personalized products and see which Shopify themes support thumbnails

Updated over 4 months ago

This article explains why you might be seeing the default design in your shopping cart thumbnail even after your customer has personalized the product. It also provides a list of supported themes where the updated design is reflected in the cart thumbnail.

Personalized Designs in Cart Thumbnails

If you're using Gelato's in-store editor for simple product personalization or advanced personalization, you'd want your customers to see their personalized designs reflected in the cart thumbnail.

However, this functionality is not always supported by all Shopify themes. If you are using an unsupported theme, the cart thumbnail will display the default pre-personalization design. In this case, you would need to contact your theme developer for assistance.

Supported Shopify Themes

The following table lists common Shopify themes and their level of support for displaying personalized designs in cart thumbnails:

Note: While we may currently provide support for selected themes when updates are made by theme developers, it may be possible that the product thumbnail does not update.

*For themes Beyond, Brooklyn, Envy, Parallax and Supply the updated previews are supported, but might be a bit distorted or some behavior could be inconsistent

Note: We support personalized thumbnails in the shopping cart in the above situations, but not at checkout. This is an improvement that has been noted for future development.
