This article explains what a resale certificate is, the process of obtaining one, and how it affects your Gelato purchases.
Before sending your certificate, please make sure that the company name, address, and email listed in your Create platform account match the information associated with your business on the exemption certificate.
The email in your Create account should be the one where you wish to receive the notification once the certificate is approved.
Mismatched or incomplete information may delay processing or result in rejection of the certificate.
Resale Certificates and Gelato
A resale certificate is a tax form proving you're buying products to resell or use as components in products you'll resell. It exempts you from sales tax on those purchases. To use one, you generally need to be registered to collect sales tax in at least one US state.
When you upload a valid resale certificate to the Gelato Dashboard, your purchases for resale are tax-free in the states covered by the certificate. However, if a valid certificate is not provided, Gelato is responsible for charging sales tax.
Gelato currently charges sales tax in 44 states, districts, and territories. The exact rate varies depending on the location and is subject to change.
