Understanding Gelato's Tax Structure

Gelato aims to simplify the shipping process and minimize potential tax complexities. To achieve this, we produce our products in over 30 countries, ensuring that your orders are fulfilled from a location as close to your customer as possible.

Gelato is registered for VAT in 16 European countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand. In the United States, we are registered for sales tax in 44 states, territories, and districts. Additionally, we are GST/HST registered in Canada and have local legal entities in Norway, China, India, Japan, Brazil, and Chile.

Tax Considerations for Your Business

Navigating taxes is a crucial aspect of running your business. There are two key scenarios where you need to consider taxes: when you purchase products from Gelato and when you charge your customers.

Several factors determine if you need to pay tax and the applicable tax rate:

  • Your business registration location

  • The specific items you are purchasing

  • The shipping destination and your customer's registered location

  • The production country (usually the same as the shipping destination)

Viewing Applicable Taxes

When you purchase through the Gelato website, the applicable taxes, if any, will be displayed at checkout and as a separate line item on your billing invoices and receipts. Your invoice will also include Gelato's local tax IDs.
