This article explains how to offer free shipping for Shopify products fulfilled by Gelato. It covers setting up free shipping for new and existing products and explains how free shipping is displayed to customers during checkout.
Setting up Free Shipping
You can offer free shipping for your products directly within Gelato.
New Products
When adding a new product, select the "Display with free shipping on your storefront" checkbox in the product details section. This will automatically create a new shipping profile in Shopify and assign the product to it.
Existing Products
To offer free shipping on products already published on your Shopify store, you need to associate them with the "Gelato: Free shipping" shipping profile in Shopify.
For detailed instructions on adding products to Gelato shipping profiles, refer to this guide.
If you can't find the "Gelato: Free Shipping" profile, publish a new product from Gelato with the free shipping option enabled. This will automatically create the profile in your Shopify store.
Free Shipping at Checkout
When a customer purchases a product with the free shipping profile applied, they will see the shipping cost as free during checkout.
While you are displaying free shipping to your customers, you are still responsible for covering the actual shipping costs. It's recommended to factor the shipping cost into your product pricing to ensure profitability.
In rare instances where Express shipping is the only available shipping method, the customer will still see free shipping at checkout, but you, as the store owner, will bear the Express shipping cost.
Free shipping may not apply to orders containing items from multiple suppliers. In such cases, Shopify's multi-location inventory management might display Gelato products as sold out. For more details on Shopify's multi-managed inventory, refer to the Shopify Help Center here.
