Learn how to set up shipping for your TikTok Shop to ensure a smooth fulfillment process

Updated over a month ago

This article explains how to set up shipping for your TikTok Shop, which is essential for adding products and ensuring a smooth fulfillment process. The setup process differs for sellers in the US and the UK.

Setting Up Shipping in the US

Before you can add products to your TikTok Shop in the US, you need to create a shipping template. Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Add Warehouse Addresses: In My Account > Account Settings > Warehouse Settings, add shipping addresses for your Pickup Warehouse and Return Warehouse. If you're based in the US, it's recommended to use this address for both: 505 N Angier Avenue NE 3rd Floor, Atlanta, GA 30308.

  2. Access Shipping Settings: Go to your TikTok Shop dashboard > Orders > Fulfillment settings > Shipping and Delivery > TikTok shipping and choose "Switch option".

  3. Select Seller Shipping: In the option list, select Seller Shipping.

Note: Selecting Seller Shipping is crucial; otherwise, Gelato won’t receive complete shipping details and won't be able to fulfill your orders. If your order was declined, and in Audit Logs you see the error "Shipping type TIKTOK is not supported" - it means you haven't chosen the correct shipping type. Please come back to this step and select the correct shipping option.

  4. Create a Shipping Template: Create a new template.

  5. Configure Shipping Information:

    • Select the Quantity-based option and use flat rates for shipping.

    • You can determine shipping costs based on standard shipping rates. If you have existing shipping prices on your Gelato account, you can use those rates as well. To find more information about Gelato's shipping prices, including flat rates, please refer to Where can I find the flat rates for shipping?

    • Configure Quantity-Based Shipping Rates

      • Navigate to Orders > Fullfilment Settings > Shipping and Delivery.

      • Select the Create template and give the template a name.

      • Choose the Quantity-based rate model.

      • Select the Standard option and click on Use price conditions.

      • Enter shipping prices based on product quantity.

      • Add multiple quantity ranges as needed (typically 5–10 ranges).

Tip: Co-Funded Free Shipping on TikTok Shop allows using Seller Shipping to share shipping costs with TikTok, offering free shipping on orders over $30. You can also benefit from up to $2 reimbursement per eligible order (up to $6 for the first 500 orders in 2024) when delivery timelines are met, reducing shipping costs and boosting product visibility with a "Free Shipping" label. Setting Up Shipping in the UK

Follow these steps to create your shipping template:

  1. Add Warehouse Addresses: In My Account > Account Settings > Warehouse Settings, add shipping addresses for your Pickup Warehouse and Return Warehouse. If you're based in the UK, it's recommended to use this address for both: York House, 221 Pentonville Road, London, N1 9UZ.

  2. For TikTok Shops in the UK, you need to set your shipping method to Shipped by seller to ensure your custom shipping options are used:

    1. Go to your TikTok dashboard.

    2. Navigate to Orders > Shipping settings.

    3. Disable Shipped by platform.

    4. Enable the Shipped from Seller option.

Note: Selecting Shipped from Seller is crucial; otherwise, Gelato won’t receive complete shipping details and won't be able to fulfill your orders. If your order was declined, and in Audit Logs you see the error "Shipping type TIKTOK is not supported" - it means you haven't chosen the correct shipping type. Please come back to this step and select the correct shipping option.

  3. Create a Shipping Template: On the TikTok Shop dashboard, go to Orders > Shipping settings > Shipped by seller. Click the Manage shipping fee template > Add new template.

  4. Set Weight-Based Shipping: TikTok UK requires weight-based shipping templates. Set weight-based prices for each of your default shipping regions.

  5. Product Weights and Fees: You can then choose a flat shipping fee for each product category. Ensure these shipping fees align with the flat-rate shipping prices for consistency.
Note: Your weight range must be set to up to 30 kg to save changes to your shipping profile. You won’t be able to set up additional item shipping costs. As a result, if a customer orders multiple items (e.g., two shirts), they will be charged the flat rate for each item, potentially increasing merchant profit on additional orders.

  6. Determine Shipping Costs: To set up your TikTok UK shipping profile, you need to assign arbitrary weights* to each product type based on the shipping costs for those products. For instance, products that share the same shipping rates can be grouped together and assigned the same weight.

Here’s how you might structure the shipping rates for different product categories:

Remember that each shipping rule's weight doesn't necessarily represent actual product weight but is used as a reference for shipping prices that will apply. After creating your rules, you would need to go back to your product list and assign the correct weight (e.g. shipping prices) to respective products.

These price conditions are referred to as "new rules" within the TikTok interface.

For more guidance on setting shipping rates for each product type, please refer to Gelato's Shipping and Delivery guide.

*The product weights aren’t the actual weights. Use them only to match each product with the right shipping method, not as the real weight of the item.
