Are there any limitations to publishing products on Amazon?
Updated over a week ago

This article outlines Amazon's product listing requirements and policies, emphasizing the importance of clear and accurate product information for a positive customer experience. While Intercom's integration with Amazon doesn't have inherent limitations, adhering to Amazon's guidelines is crucial for successful product publishing.

Understanding Amazon's Product Detail Page Rules

Amazon has specific rules to ensure a consistent and transparent buying experience. Here's a breakdown:

  • Each product detail page must focus on a single, unique item.

  • Content must adhere to Amazon's style guides, avoiding HTML, JavaScript, or other code (with the exception of line breaks using </br> in descriptions).

  • Inappropriate content such as offensive materials, contact information, spoilers, reviews, or advertising is prohibited.

  • Accurate product categorization and descriptions are essential.

  • Duplicate pages for existing products are not allowed; create new pages for new products or versions.

  • Product variations should only relate to the primary product.

Creating Compliant and Effective Product Listings

To ensure your product listings meet Amazon's standards, follow these guidelines:

  • Adhere to the relevant style guide for your product category. General rules can be found in the Amazon Services Quick Start Style Guide, while category-specific guidelines are available in the Templates for Specific Categories.

  • Refrain from using HTML, JavaScript, or other code except for line breaks (</br>) in the description.

  • Ensure your product titles are within the 200-character limit, including spaces. Note that some categories may have shorter limits.

  • Maintain consistency with Amazon listing standards, including accurate categorization, clear product titles and descriptions, high-quality images, and outlining essential additional items.

Policies for Adding and Editing Detail Pages

When adding or editing product detail pages, consider the following policies:

  • Respect intellectual property rights and avoid infringing on others' content. Refer to the Intellectual Property Rights for Sellers page for details.

  • Use product creation tools solely for listing products on Amazon.

  • Provide accurate product identification information, including UPC codes and publication dates.

  • Avoid creating duplicate detail pages for existing products.

  • Refrain from using detail pages for cross-merchandising or promoting unrelated products.

  • For BMVD products, use a single page for a single product only. Bundles must be publisher-defined with unique ISBNs, UPCs, or EANs.

  • Edits should improve the accuracy and clarity of product information. Permissible updates include adding details, clarifications, grammar fixes, and removing policy-violating content.

  • Create new product detail pages for new product versions, including changes in color, size, material, features, or product name.

  • For re-branding, refer to the Amazon Brand Name Policy page. Minor changes may be acceptable, while major changes require new ASINs.
