Impact of Canada Post Strike on Deliveries

Canada Post Strike - November 2024

Updated over a month ago

Overview

Canada Post is currently experiencing a labor strike, and while negotiations are ongoing, there is no confirmed end date. This situation is causing delays for a small percentage (~1%) of orders in Canada, particularly in remote areas and PO boxes. Here's what you need to know about how this affects deliveries and what we’re doing to mitigate the impact.

Affected Carriers

Gelato works with three carriers in Canada: FleetOptics, Purolator, and Landmark.

  1. FleetOptics: Not affected by the strike.

  2. Purolator: Not affected by the strike. While Purolator occasionally uses Canada Post, Canada Post will continue to deliver Purolator’s packages during the strike.

  3. Landmark: Some delays expected. Landmark relies on Canada Post for:

    • Final-mile delivery to very remote destinations.

    • Deliveries to PO boxes.

What to Expect

  • Remote Areas & PO Boxes: Packages shipped with Landmark to these destinations may be delayed. Landmark will hold packages at the nearest hub until Canada Post resumes regular service.

  • Mitigation Efforts:

    • We are working to identify affected postal codes and will reroute future orders through Purolator where possible.

    • This will minimize the number of held orders and ensure faster delivery to impacted areas.

We are actively monitoring the situation and will update this article as new information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding!
